It is so important, now more than ever, for children to be given the opportunity to socialize with their peers. With the current pandemic, many children aren't getting the opportunity to share their thoughts, listen to each other, take turns talking, practice speaking in groups of people, and gain the self-confidence that comes from feeling heard. In this ongoing class, students will be given these opportunities and more. Each class may look a little different, depending on wants and needs of the students in the class. In some classes, I will pose a question for the students to talk about. In other classes, I may invite them to bring a favorite toy to share with the class. We might read a short story from time to time that relates to a social skill like not interrupting, showing respect, telling the truth, being generous, etc. and then discuss it. Sometimes I might show an object or picture to spark a conversation. The goal of this class is for students to have the chance to lead the conversation and for me to be a guide and remind them of important social skills to practice.
Learning Goals
In this ongoing class, students will learn social skills by listening to others and sharing their own thoughts while socializing.
