It's rhyme time on Outschool! One of the most important skills for a beginning reader is identifying, repeating, and producing rhymes! This lays a foundation for learning many crucial literacy concepts like word families, letter substitution, and phonemic awareness.

This class will introduce or reinforce the concept of verbal and written rhyming to young learners! First, I will present several pairs of rhyming words in pictures and/ or real props and ask learners to verbally say each rhyming pair. Then, I will show eight images that make four rhyming pairs, guiding learners to correctly identify and pronounce the correct pairs. Finally, learners will get to produce their own rhyming pairs, with teacher guidance when needed! 

Advanced learners may also be asked to produce more than two rhyming words to begin creating word families! For example: /hat/ rhymes with /cat/ and also /bat/!

Most of our class will be visual and aural, with learners seeing pictures and producing the words verbally. I will also present some of the rhyming pairs as words to begin building letter/ sound correspondence for learners that are ready for this concept!
