Beginner Level
Welcome to this Time for German Halloween Special! You do not need to know any German in order to take part in this Halloween-themed lesson. In this one-time class, students will learn lots of Halloween vocabulary, especially witch-related vocabulary such as toad, black cat and magic potion and then students will combine this vocabulary with appropriate adjectives such as smooth, playful and mysterious. Students will be introduced to Heidi the friendly witch and also four naughty characters - skeleton, ghost, werewolf and vampire - who are trying to spoil Heidi's Halloween by taking all of her favourite things. Throughout the lesson, students will be learning and applying their Halloween vocabulary in order to complete a serious of challenges to save Heidi's Halloween. No previous knowledge of German is needed to take this class and for those who have taken classes with me before, this class would be the level of one of the easier 'Time for German 102' lessons as there is a lot of vocabulary and students will be combining nouns and adjectives to make sentences. I will use fun slides and activities to engage the students and at the end of the class, students will take part in a fun quiz to test out their new knowledge. A printable sheet containing all vocabulary and a Halloween activity for the lesson will be provided in the classroom a few days before the lesson starts so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom.
Learning Goals

For the Nearpod quiz near the end of each lesson, the learner should be able to access Nearpod on their web browser. I will send a link and a code for them to enter the quiz 5 minutes before the end of class for the quiz to take place in class. Learners can either simply click on the link or enter the code onto the Nearpod website. They do not need a Nearpod account for this.
In class, I will use slides that I have created myself using Canva. I will simply share my screen so that learners can see the relevant information and all of that information will also be on the handout I provide - which is also created using Canva. You do not need a Canva account.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree from University of the West of England
I worked as an Elementary/Primary School Teacher in Birmingham (UK) from September 2012 to March 2020, teaching children aged 4 - 12 all taught subjects, but specialising in German. I was the Modern Foreign Languages (World Languages) Lead in the school and I taught German throughout the year groups. As a teacher that had a relatively short time with every class, I believed it was important to inspire and enthuse every class I had and I am now bringing that energy and positivity to my Outschool German lessons. While teaching German, I won a 'Special Mention' at the German Teacher Awards, for 'setting standards of excellence in the teaching of German as a foreign language in the United Kingdom'. I was presented the award by the German Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the Welsh Minister of Education and Skills. I left for family reasons and have been teaching online ever since. I love teaching my wunderbar Outschool students so much that since 2022, I have resisted all offers and attempts to get me to return to local schools.
Alongside teaching at Primary School, I ran the school Rugby Team as well as a Saturday class teaching German to children aged 6 - 12 at my local community centre. I have created a website featuring my German lessons which is used by teachers all over the world. My Outschool German lessons are loosely based on these 'Time for German' lessons and I will also be running my 'Zeit für Deutsch', courses which will enable children to participate in a German only session after just 6 lessons. I was a senior teacher up until March 2020, giving staff appraisals and leading school meetings. I was a school lead in co-operative learning for all subjects, employing co-operative learning strategies and techniques to make my lessons more engaging, fun and co-operative. These strategies work very well in my Outschool German lessons.
I have learnt German just like your child so I know the difficulties that learning German for native English speakers can bring. Although I am not a native speaker of German, I have passed the GOETHE-ZERTIFIKAT C1 with 'gut' and a particularly high level of spoken German. Prior to my teaching career, I have worked in many jobs where I used my German skills including Rolls Royce Deutschland for three years, where I spoke German every day. I have also lived and worked in Germany (in Eisenach) for a year, teaching at the local secondary/high school. I have 2 little girls (aged 6 and 8) who keep me very busy and regularly attend Outschool classes so I appreciate the cost of classes soon adds up. I am therefore determined to keep my prices reasonable ($13/$14 per class) for families who wish that their children take classes with me, even when most of my classes are full or nearly full. Outside of Outschool, I work mainly as a taxi driver for my daughters and I also enjoy CrossFit. I hope to see you soon in my classroom. Bis bald.
