Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 1 - Rapunzel's Routine & Conjunctions

Part 1 of the 4-course 'Grimm German Grammar' series. With Rapunzel being trapped in the tower, we follow her daily routine while also learning to talk about our own daily routines. Students will develop this knowledge by creating complex sentences with more than one clause by using words such as 'danach', 'wenn', 'bevor' and 'während'. These conjunctions will then be combined with other activities outside of the tower while Rapunzel dreams of her freedom and then then course will end in an epic final lesson where all of your student's knowledge will be needed to help Rapunzel escape the tower and make it to her kingdom, all while overcoming the increasingly difficult challenges set by 'Mutter Gothel'.

This course is for graduates of '101' and '102', but as the language taught is more in-depth, students will need to read and study the grammar and vocabulary before and after the class. A printable sheet containing all vocabulary for each lesson will be provided in the classroom a few days before each lesson starts so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. Throughout my many years experience of teaching German, students have often said that my lessons were 'easy', despite the ambitious learning objectives of the lessons. In my previous school, I was the co-operative learning specialist and school lead, employing creative learning strategies and techniques to make my lessons more engaging, fun and co-operative. Throughout the course, I will use fun slides and activities to engage the students and learners will also be able to practise conversations with each other. The students will be asked to apply the vocabulary and sentence structures to their own lives (taking into account online safety of course) and I will ask lots of questions to build up the student's knowledge into functional sentences. Here are the lesson titles:

Week 1 - Daily Routine

Week 2 - Conjunctions

Week 3 - Dreaming of Freedom

Week 4 - Time to Escape

Recommended course sequence:

1 - Time for German 101 (16 Lessons)
2 - Time for German 102 (16 Lessons)

Then you will be ready for the '103 Track'. It does not matter in which order you do the following courses but this is the order that they will take place on the same day and in the same time slot. Just make you you book onto the follow-up course and complete all 48 lessons in 103:

3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 1 - Reading Focus (16 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 1 - Rapunzel's Routine & Conjunctions (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 2 - Hansel and Gretel (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 2 - Verb Focus (16 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 3 - Dornröschen and the Perfect Tense (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 4 - The Frog Prince (4 Lessons)

***New to Time for German?***
If you have not done one of my previous 'Time for German' courses but still have a good grasp of basic German, then this course could still be for you. If you are willing to read the handouts and complete the provided activities, then please message me before enrolling and I will be able to advise whether '101', '102' or '103' would be suitable.

***Behaviour***
I have high expectations of behaviour. As an Outschool parent, I understand how frustrating it can be when one child spoils the lesson for the other children. I go over my expectations at the start of the lesson but my main rules are putting you hand up when you want to speak and not excessively playing with filters and emojis.
Learning Goals
Students will learn vocabulary and grammar in relation to the topics of daily routine and free time. Students should be able to discuss these topics in relation to their own lives.

Parental Guidance
For the Nearpod quiz near the end of each lesson, the learner should be able to access Nearpod on their web browser. I will send a link and a code for them to enter the quiz 5 minutes before the end of class for the quiz to take place in class. Learners can either simply click on the link or enter the code onto the Nearpod website. They do not need a Nearpod account for this. In class, I will use slides that I have created myself using Canva. I will simply share my screen so that learners can see the relevant information and all of that information will also be on the handout I provide - which is also created using Canva. You do not need a Canva account.
Supply List
A document containing all of the vocabulary for each lesson will be provided and students should read it and complete the activities before or after the lesson. It would also be very helpful for the students to have the handout during the lesson so they can refer to this.
