Homework
1 hour per week. A printable sheet containing all vocabulary and an activity for each lesson will be provided in the classroom a few days before each lesson starts so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. It would be helpful if the students read and do these before and also have them in class.Class Experience
Welcome to 'Time for German' - an 80+ lesson Scheme of Work which will take your learner from complete beginner to pre-intermediate level in the German language. More importantly though, your learner will have lots of fun along the way and will develop a love of language learning. All of the lessons are highly interactive and in the 1:1 format especially, learners are expected engage for the full 30 minutes. If your learner is a near/complete beginner, we can start at the beginning but if your learner already has the basics such as numbers and colors, we can discuss a more appropriate start point. Perhaps they are taking part in one of my group courses and have missed a lesson or you would like them to repeat a lesson to master the vocabulary or a concept, then a one-off 1:1 class could also be a good option for them. A printable sheet containing all vocabulary for each lesson will be provided in the classroom a few days before each lesson starts and an additional activity will also be provided so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. These 'additional activities' include crosswords, wordsearches and translation activities and I find that many of my students have a 'Time for German' folder that they keep all of their documents in to revise and remind them of all the learning done in class. Throughout my many years experience of teaching German, students have often said that my lessons were 'easy', despite the ambitious learning objectives of the lessons. In my previous schools, I was the co-operative learning specialist and school lead, employing creative learning strategies and techniques to make my lessons more engaging, fun and co-operative. Throughout each lesson, I will use fun slides and activities to engage your learner and I will ask lots of questions to build up their knowledge into functional sentences. If your learner is starting from the very beginning, here is a brief summary and example of the topics and learning goals: Lesson 1 Learning Objective: Introduce Myself in German Success Criteria (students should be able to say most or all of the following in German after the lesson): *I can say a greeting *I can say my name *I can say how old I am *I can say how I am feeling *I can say goodbye *I can ask questions *I can sing a 'greeting' song Lesson 2 Learning Objective: Know the Colors in German Success Criteria: *I can say 13 colors in German *I can say 6 different countries and flags in German *I can sing a German song about colors *I can say what my favorite color is in German Lesson 3 Learning Objective: Name Parts of the Body in German Success Criteria: *I can listen to a word and point to the correct part of the body *I can play ‘Simon says’ in German *I can sing ‘Heads shoulders, knees and toes’ in German *I can answer the question ‘Was ist das?’ Lesson 4 Learning Objective: Name Clothes in German Success Criteria: *I can say what clothes I have *I can say what an item of clothing is *I can sing a traditional German song *I can play memory games with German clothing vocabulary The topics in subsequent weeks will be: 5) Numbers to 20 with Time 6) Animals and Adjectives 7) To be 8) Fruit and Fun 9) Weather and Seasons 10) Days of the Week and 'to play' 11) Months and Birthday 12) Family 13) Continents and Countries 14) Breakfast 15) School Subjects 16) House and Rooms If your learner is already at a more advanced level, we could discuss a more appropriate start point.
