Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Hello! Welcome to "Tió De Nadal - A Christmas Log That Poops (A Catalan Tradition)." This is a 30-minute class for curious students ages 6-11 years old. A small class size offered here will allow your child ample opportunity to participate and speak in class. In this lesson, I will emphasize the importance of respecting individuals and cultural differences in order to create a safe and positive classroom experience.

Students will have the chance to learn, understand, and appreciate Tió De Nadal. It is literally a log of Christmas but it is also referred to as Caga Tió or "poo log." In Catalonia (a region of Spain), the cute face log is fed from December 8th to December 24th. Children get presents by hitting the log on December 24th because Santa Claus does not appear here. In this lesson, we will explore Tió De Nadal/ Caga Tió's role during Christmas and what must be done to care for him. By opening our minds and hearts, let's discover something new in Catalonia this Christmas.

I hope this lesson will spark interest in learning and experiencing more cultures around the world. I hope to meet your child in class.

Learning Goals

Students will...
1. learn that Santa does not visit Catalonia;
2. learn about Tió De Nadal (What is it? Where is it from? When does it appear? Why this tradition is practiced); and
3. learn to sing the tune of Caga Tió (children friendly words will be used here only)
