Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this ongoing class, learners will be exposed to ancient Greek mythology. We will explore different myths involving the gods who live on Mount Olympus, how they came to be there, and their interactions with each other and the mortal men over whom they ruled. In week one, we will learn about the Titans who came before the gods on Mount Olympus and their importance in the early formation of Greek mythology. In week two, we will focus on Zeus, the god of all Olympic gods and men. We will explore the rest of the gods in weeks three and four with Hera and Poseidon. We will continue with new stories and myths every week. Students will be exposed to photos of statues of the Greek gods, the temples where the Greek people worshiped them, and some paintings or illustrations depicting the Greek gods and goddesses throughout the classes. (I will make sure there are no nude depictions, or at the very least that the pictures are cropped or censored appropriately.) The material will be presented in a slide show accompanied by lectures and stories in a story-telling format. Students are encouraged to raise their hands to participate in questions and share the knowledge they already possess about Greek mythology. I am so excited to share these stories with your learner and to, in turn, learn from them!

Learning Goals
Learners will be exposed to Ancient Greek Mythology in an ongoing class. We will learn about the origins of the gods on Mount Olympus, their predecessors, their children, and their interactions with one another and the mortal men who worshipped them as gods. This class will explore dozens of stories and allow students to delve into the world of Ancient Greece and insert themselves into the story that has been woven and recorded over time.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We will discuss the idea of Greek gods and goddesses in a mythical, fictional sense. There will be mention of babies, marriage, and infidelity (explained to students as unfaithfulness to a married partner by having other girlfriends or boyfriends). We will talk about war, killing, and battles, but we will not go into bloody details. Many of the visual materials are paintings and statues that are scantily clad or indeed, nude, but those will be tastefully cropped so that not too much is revealed for the young learners.
Supply List
Students don't need to bring anything with them to class. We will view a slide show, discuss the myths in a story-telling manner, while welcoming discussion and questions along the way. Bring a mind eager to learn about the lives these gods lead!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
