This Week in Science is a discussion based class. Students will be provided current events articles about Science in the News and then as a class we will discuss these articles. Through discussions students will be able to understand how current advances in science are impacting communities around the world, how science is changing across the globe, and explore new discoveries in scientific areas, while discussing how these advancements may impact our future. What Students Need To Do BEFORE...
1) Students will learn and be exposed to a variety of current scientific topics and events. 2) Through discussion students will be able to determine the impact of this news on the scientific community and their own lives. 3) Students will read and analyze a wide range of informational texts to promote reading comprehension. 4) Students will work on interpersonal communication skills through discussion with each other, learn how to respect various opinions, and develop critical thinking skills.
Students are expected to read the posted article prior to class in order to ensure maximum time for discussion.
The Weekly Article will be provided the week of class in PDF or URL format.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This is a science based class, articles will be posted in the classroom and will be taken from a variety of resources. Occasionally, we may compare articles from different viewpoints.
