Class Experience

In this age of social media, people often have their phones out snapping photos of themselves and documenting their daily lives through pictures. How often, though, do we stop to really look at these digital stories and explore what they mean to us? In this one-time class, students will use a series of paired photography ('selfie') and writing prompts to explore their identities. Students will investigate the ways they view themselves, and how they present themselves to others.

We will read poetry together, work on individual and collaborative writing based on photos, and have discussions about the thoughts and questions the readings and creative activities bring up. By the end of class students will have several pieces of writing and photography completed, and will have prompts to continue their work outside of class.
