Class Experience

Do you ever struggle with confidence and comparing yourself to others? This camp is designed to help you take pride in all things that make you special! Through fun hands-on activities, art, games and discussion with fellow campers, we’ll reflect on and celebrate multiple aspects of our personalities and grow to see ourselves as the powerful future leaders we are. Watch out world, here we come!

See below for a detailed breakdown of each day of camp:

Day 1 - I Am Unique
The first day of camp will be about celebrating all the things that make us stand out! We will play games to see the similarities and differences between us, make an art project celebrating who we are on both the inside and the outside, write a poem about our identities, and cook up a delicious snowflake treat.

Day 2 - I Am Creative
The second day of camp will be about nurturing our creative sides. We’ll play games to activate our imaginations, engage in a drawing activity, design our own inventions and take on super identities.

Day 3 - I Am Caring and Helpful
The third day will be about the confidence that grows when we use our strengths to help others and when we turn that spirit of kindness to ourselves. We’ll participate in a creative art project designed to make the community around us smile, craft a thank you card for someone special in our lives, discuss the concept of bucket filling, explore positive affirmations, and make a piece of digital art complimenting the positive traits in our fellow campers.

Day 4 - I Am Resilient
The fourth day will be about fostering a spirit of resilience and grit when we face obstacles in our lives. We’ll talk about how the brain responds to challenge, determine factors we can and cannot control in our lives, explore accidental inventions, put our brains to work solving puzzles, and craft an art piece embracing the power of ‘yet.’

Day 5 - I Am Talented
Finally, the last day of camp will be about showcasing our special talents. We’ll craft a collage of our talents, discuss how surprising talents can emerge during ordinary events, help teach others something we excel in, journal our newfound discoveries about ourselves, gift each other our digital compliment art from earlier in the week and hold a talent show! Campers will receive a special certificate at the end of the day spotlighting a strength they brought to the camp week.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an elementary school teacher and drama instructor who has had plenty of experience fostering confidence and self-esteem in children of all ages. I also hold a Mental Health First Aid certificate and have taken courses and training in a range of mental health topics. I was selected to serve on a focus panel that designed a school curriculum to teach kids about anxiety and fostering positive mental health. I also run social emotional learning initiatives at my public school and implement these strategies every day in my regular teaching practice. Perhaps most importantly, I have faced personal struggles in my journey towards self-acceptance and am passionate about using what I've learned along the way to help youth grow into the best version of themselves they can be.
