Class Experience

Do you love Halloween as much as I do? Feel free to dress up as we celebrate the holiday by doing two spooky science experiments together. In addition, there will be downloadable fact sheets about each experiment and additional information about more Halloween experiments you can do at home together!

Students are not required to participate in class if they do not wish to or do not have the correct supplies. They may simply observe and ask questions so that they may complete the experiment on their own at at later time.

In class, we will begin with an eerie ice breaker. Then, we will move into our first experiment, Boo Bags. After a short game we will complete our second experiment, Witch's Brew.

Experiment 1: Boo Bags- One plastic snack bag with press seal (zip close bags will not work as well), permanent marker to decorate bag, baking soda, vinegar, half sheet of paper towel [Optional: food coloring, plastic spiders, or other eerie ad-ins!)

Experiment 2: Witch's Brew- Bottle or glass jar, Baking soda, vinegar, dish soap.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to carefully follow instructions as we do each step of the experiments. Students will also receive a science review of some concepts such as ...

Parental Guidance
None of these experiments are dangerous, however they can get quite messy or irritate skin or eyes if not careful. Please keep this in mind if you think your learner needs adult supervision nearby. Learners may wear aprons, gloves, googles, or sunglasses to help protect their skin and clothes. Please be sure to have learners wash their hands after class. I suggest doing messy experiments by the sink or outside to help from inadvertently creating a Halloween scene in your dining room! Please message me with any questions or concerns!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello students and parents! I am so excited to share my passion of science with you! I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2018 with a bachelor’s of arts in Geography where I studied weather and climate. I am currently an educator at a hands-on science museum! I have also been teaching students in an online platform for almost two years, and I enjoy having fun while helping you learn! I believe that science should be learned through play and experiments rather than lectures. In my classroom, we are always kind and supportive. In class, my German Shepard, Mia, may make an appearance. And yes, I always want to see your pet!
