Class Experience

As we all navigate the waters of distance learning, this class will be taught by a master teacher. This class provides a flexible schedule while working on structured 3rd grade writing curriculum that is aligned to the common core. 

February - March: Persuasive Writing
March - April: Letter Writing 
April - May: Poetry
May - June: Creative Writing/Stories

Throughout this course, we will also be learning writing elements such punctuation, sentence starters, transition words/phrases, parts of speech and more! 

*There may be continuous elements to this class, but if you can't attend one week or decide to try the class out after a new topic has started - no worries! I am happy to set up a make-up/catch-up session with you privately to get you up-to-speed!!**

**SCHEDULE REQUESTS: Please also note that I live in the Eastern Standard Time zone. At this time, I am unable to offer writing group classes on days other than Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I will do my best to honor schedule requests for those days. Also, I do offer tutoring services if you are interested! Supply List

Students will need a computer/laptop, strong internet connection, writing journal/notebook, and pencils! 

Students will also need to have good computer skills as well as to be able to access Google Classroom.

Welcome! My name is Beth Gomez and I have been an educator (both teacher and assistant principal) for the last 10 years. I have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (with specializations in Reading and Music) and Vocal Performance from the University of Iowa. I obtained my Master's in Education from Sam Houston State University in Instructional Technology and, most recently, I have a post-Master's Certificate of Advanced Study from Colorado State University in Educational Leadership and Administration. 

I am certified in Early Childhood-6th grade in all subject areas, English as a Second Language (ESL) Early Childhood-6th grade, Reading Kindergarten-8th grade, and Music Education Kindergarten-12th grade. 

I have been a public school teacher for 7 years and an elementary Assistant Principal for one year. I absolutely love being an educator! My first four years of teaching were spent educating 2nd and 3rd grades all core subject areas as well as ESL. My most recent 3 years in the classroom were spent teaching STEM and Technology for ages Pre-Kindergarten-5th grade. Currently, I am a K-5 Literacy Coach for a virtual academy. I coach and train teachers on English Language Arts best practices, assist with lesson planning, model lessons, lead and/or participate in study groups alongside educators, help teachers conduct student assessments and analyze student work, design and lead professional development presentations for educators, and more!

I love being a teacher and my favorite part of my profession is when I see the "aha" or lightbulb moment. It is so special to see a child experience that! I believe that learning should be fun, meaningful, and engaging and this is an area of strength for me given my very strong background in the use of classroom/instructional technology. I have an extensive background in working with a wide range of students regarding their age, demographics, English proficiency, and academic level/need.
