Class Experience

US Grade 3
In this full curriculum, 3rd grade science class, your child will have the opportunity to discover the world around them in an engaging environment. We will cover a wide range of themes from outer space to the human body to even the forces of nature. My goal is to create a love for learning and to instill wonder in their minds about the amazing world around us.

Each class will begin with a quick summary of the previous lesson and continue with an introduction on the day's lesson. Here is the format for each course:
- Welcome
- Review previous lesson
- Introduce new lesson
- Lesson (using slides to help as a visual aid)
- Activity (could vary between manipulatives, crafts, experiments, or worksheets)
- Summary of the lesson
- Mini Assessment (not graded) to check for understanding

During lessons, I enjoy using a variety of techniques (particularly during the activity portion) to help children grasp the subjects. I try to reach all types of learners this way so that they all have an equal opportunity to learn in the way that they do best. I believe that respect is extremely important and that no question is too small to ask. Attached, you will find a copy of the syllabus. This schedule may change slightly depending on the students' particular needs, but it will not change from 30 lessons.

Please be advised that the following weeks there will be no lessons for the 2024-2025 year:
Week of September 16
Week of September 23
Week of November 25
Week of December 23
Week of December 30

Learning Goals
Students will have a deeper understanding of the world around them by exploring the beginning levels of a variety of subjects, such as physical science, biology, earth/space science, geology, and more, as aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Parental Guidance
Due to the hands-on nature of our course, students will be using scissors to conduct experiments and complete activities. Please provide supervision during these moments for the safety of your child.
Supply List
Students will need coloring tools (crayons, color pencils, or markers), scissors, glue, and the ability to print out the activities for some of the lessons. These will be sent in advance so that you are able to print it out with plenty of time. The activities are not required, but are incredibly important for the understanding of the material, especially for tactile and visual learners.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Central Florida
As a 2015 graduate from the University of Central Florida, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Science Education with a focus on Biology and have 9 years of teaching experience. I taught virtually for 3 years with FLVS, then in public school, private school, and now through Outschool since 2020. Though my expertise lies in the more complex details of science, I have much experience working with early childhood education. I am a homeschool mom to 3 wonderful children and the director of an education program in my community. I have tutored children from ages 4 through 18 in the subjects of science, language arts, reading, social studies, and others. Additionally, I share educational advice and resources on social media to help other parents connect with their children effectively, avoiding struggles and frustration. I am a children's book author, with a book on the importance of trees and conservation written to be used at the elementary level.
