In this ongoing class, we will practice reading fluency using second and third-grade fiction and nonfiction passages. I will use different strategies such as model, group, echo, and reciprocal reading to increase fluency. This class is the perfect "next step" for my learners who have already taken my other reading classes, especially my Reading Fluency: Fun Timed Reading Challenges With 1st and 2nd Grade Passages and Second Grade Comprehension! If you are new to my classes, we will be reading 3rd-grade level passages, so this class would be a good fit for advanced second-grade readers, on-grade-level third-grade readers, or fourth-grade readers who need a little remediation. We will have timed reading challenges that my learners love using a first read (cold read) and a second read (hot read) but don't worry, the focus isn't to beat each other, but to beat their own first reading! In this class, we will be counting how many words we read in 1 or 2 minutes (depending on the passage). Our goal is to try to read more words on the second read! Passages will be uploaded to the classroom each week the day before class. I recommend printing these fluency passages so students can continue their reading practice throughout the week from class to class. *I have written permission to use these passages in my Outschool classes. Because this is an ongoing class, students are free to jump in at any point and they will not be behind:) Week of January 30th: A House of Memories pg 3 Week of February 6th: A House of Memories pg 4 Week of February 13th: The Plant Doctor pg 1 Week of February 20th: The Plant Doctor pg 2 Week of February 27th: The Plant Doctor pg 3 Week of March 6th: The Olympic Games Week of March 13th: Mother's Day Week of March 20th: Surprise Party Week of March 27th: The Sun Week of April 3rd: My Dad Goes to School Week of April 10th: Satellites Week of April 17th: Elephants Week of April 24th: The Sea Park Week of May 1st: I Belong to a Big Family Week of May 8th: Autumn ______________________________ beginning reading, first grade, second grade, third grade, fluency, comprehension, rate and accuracy, timed reading

Hello! I am so happy to be here and tell you a little about myself. I have been a certified teacher and reading specialist for over two decades and greatly enjoy creating and teaching courses that are fun for the students, packed with value, and super engaging! I am a kind and encouraging teacher, and I love to acknowledge every success in the classroom-big and small! I have created the following curriculum with your learner in mind! For preschoolers just beginning to learn letters and sounds, I recommend starting with my PreK course that covers not only reading, but also math, science, and social studies content. For those students who do not need an entire Pre-K course or those that know letters and sounds and are ready to begin reading CVC words, I recommend taking my ongoing classes in the following order starting with the first class (Feel free to copy and paste or scroll down past this profile to go directly to the class links). For those learners who know most CVC words or can easily sound those words out, I recommend beginning with the second class.
1. Pre-K & Kinder: Complete Curriculum & Circle Time (Meets 4 Times per Week). This is an ongoing, YEAR-ROUND course where we will cover all standards for PreK and most Kinder standards as well. Your learner can jump in at any time and not be behind.

4. Sight Word Science: A Better Way! Learning Tricky Parts by Heart (Kinder/First) (16-week content rotation cycle) This class can be taken in conjunction with my Bossy E class if your learner has a good grasp of CVC words, letters, and sounds.

5. First Grade Reading Skills: (Beyond CVC and Silent E) Diphthongs, Digraphs, Vowel Teams, and Blends (20-week content rotation cycle). This class can be taken in conjunction with Sight Word Science if students have a good grasp of CVC and CVCe words.

6. Reading Fluency Practice: Increasing Fluency with Fun Timed Challenges Using First and Second-Grade Fiction and Nonfiction Passages: This class can be taken in conjunction with Sight Words Made Easy if your child has a good foundation of CVC and CVCe words. It is ideal for students in first and second grade or very strong readers in kindergarten. This is an ongoing class that meets once a week.

8. 2nd Grade Reading Comprehension: This class is for students in first grade who are strong readers, students on second-grade reading level, or students in third grade who may need a little extra help. This class focuses heavily on comprehension, so if your child needs fluency practice, see my previous three classes on this list! This is an ongoing class that meets once per week covering the five big comprehension skills (direct recall, inferences/predictions, unfamiliar vocabulary using context clues, main idea and details, and sequencing) using second-grade fiction and nonfiction passages.

9. Reading Fluency: Fun Timed Reading Challenges With 3rd Grade Passages. This class is ideal for students who are reading at a higher 2nd-grade level or a lower 3rd-grade level, or those who have taken my first fluency class using first and second-grade passages.
