Welcome to Third Grade, a full year curriculum!
This is a magical year~ The year that your little one becomes a big kid! As you can probably see, your learner is going through big milestones of physical, mental and emotional growth in a huge way this year, and I am here for it!
I love third graders because this is when their world becomes BIG. They begin to ask deeper questions, they are more curious, they have more empathy, and are able to comprehend more.
Ready to find out what your learner will be doing in their new favorite class? Let’s get into it!

First- ELA.- English, Language Arts.

Grammar-
Students will be introduced with every grammar skill for third grade- With introduction, guided practice, independent practice, and an assessment for each grammar skill.

Reading Comprehension-
Third grade marks a transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.”
Using close reading passage & question sets, as well as task cards, students will be using Lexile Levels to help with scaffolding and differentiation. There are 19 different skills that students will learn about throughout the year.

Writing-
3rd grade begins my Writer’s Workshops, where students will learn how to write Personal Narratives, Realistic Fiction, Informational Writing, and Opinion Writing. They will be proud of their writing, and will learn so much in the process.

Cursive
This is a beginner progressive cursive curriculum, learning the easiest to write letters first. It will be fun!

Math
We will be using the 3rd Grade Math With Confidence workbook from the Math With Confidence Series by Kate Snow. This will be my 3rd year of using it, and the reason why I love it is that Math is taught in such a fun and engaging way by doing a hands-on lesson together as a class. The workbook is then used as homework after class to reinforce the lesson learned. There is also a spiral review within the homework that will continue to review previously learned concepts throughout the year, so that every taught concept stays fresh. As long as the students stay current and keep up in the workbook, they should understand the material well. This is a gentle learning, but they will have strong skills and be confident about what they know.
Topics covered: Multiplication and division facts to 100, Adding and subtracting numbers to 10,000, Area and perimeter, Adding and subtracting fractions, Multi-step word problems, Money, elapsed time, length, weight, capacity, and geometry. Grade 3 is a brand new curriculum book and will be ready for purchase on June 27th, on Amazon-and it will be 2 workbooks for your learner. You can pre-order it now.

Science
Our Science Program this year has FIVE science units linked to the 3rd Grade NGSS standards. This covers all of the NGSS standards for 3rd Grade. Force and Motion, Traits and Inheritance, Life Cycle Growth and Development of Organisms, Weather and Climate, and Eco Systems. We have activities, assessments, student science journals, and fun extra activities at the end of each unit.

Social Studies
They will learn about Ancient World Geography- Then and Now- in interesting places- Ancient Mali, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Rome, and Ancient Greece, and learn through escape rooms, discussion, worksheets, and books.

Whew! That’s a lot! But there’s one more subject! We can’t forget about Art. Art is so important, and necessary for stimulating creativity and problem solving skills. It’s also so much fun. We will be inspired by the artwork of famous artists. They will learn about the artist, and see their art, and then explore different mediums to create their own masterpiece.

Students must turn in assignments through the Outschool Classroom. They will be given grades/feedback for each assignment. Additionally, I will give progress reports every 9 weeks, and 1 report card each semester- But only if you turn in your class work to me.

Hello! My name is Dina, and I am excited to have you here! First and foremost, I am a mama to 4 kidlings. Most are grown and 3 have left the nest, but I have 1 left at home. I love teaching kids. I love the "aha" on a child's face when they understand a new concept. I love the personalities that I come across. I have been teaching English online for several years to children ages 3-16. I have also been a preschool teacher for over 20 years.
If I could have had another career, I might have been a librarian, because I LOVE reading! Reading is one of my favorite hobbies!
Some of my other hobbies include hiking, gardening, my pets, and cooking!
I believe in finding the spark of curiosity that lives in every child, and encouraging it to grow. I hope to inspire my students through engagement with reading, learning, cooking, a positive mindset, play and laughter.
When I am not teaching classes I am a wedding officiant! I get to marry people~ which is so rewarding and special. :)
I have an ECE degree, a Bachelor of Arts, and a Masters in Business, and a Doctorate in Divinity. I also have my TESOL and TOEFL certifications.
I hope you will be inspired to have a class with me, and I am hopeful your child will have as much fun with me, as I plan to with them!
See you in the classroom!
Sincerely, Dina
