Thinking Thursday: Preschool Learning Fun

Learning should be fun and preschool is when kids really start learning the basics for school and making friends. In this 8-week class for preschoolers, we are going to learn about the alphabet, numbers 1-10, shapes, and colors. During our classes, we will also spend time learning how to be good friends and classmates to one another. Each week we will focus on a few letters, practice our counting from 1 to 10, learn new shapes, and work on identifying colors. We will also take a few minutes at the end of the class for a brief show and tell to help students practice speaking to other kids and learning to listen when others are sharing.

Students should come to class ready to have fun and learn in a low-pressure atmosphere. We use animals to learn our letters and practice counting. We will use different objects and settings to learn and practice shapes and colors, such as camping, games, animals, and the beach. There will be some fun songs and videos included in the lessons to help keep little ones interested and having fun.

Week 1: Letters: A, B, C, D; Shapes: Circle, Triangle
Week 2: Letters: E, F, G, H; Shapes: Square, Rectangle
Week 3: Letters: I, J, K, L; Shapes: Pentagon, Diamond
Week 4: Letters: M, N, O, P; Shapes: Hexagon, Half Circle
Week 5: Letters: Q, R, S, T; Shapes: Oval, Octagon
Week 6: Letters: U, V, W; Shapes: Trapezoid
Week 7: Letters: X, Y, Z; Shapes: Star
Week 8: Review

Since 45 minutes can be a little long for young kids, we will have some silly dance breaks and time for the students to interact to keep them going through the entire class. Class will start and end on time; we could go up to 5 minutes over at the end depending on interaction and participation. I will also post worksheets in the classroom each week to go with our lesson that week. These are optional for students to use as extra practice between our lessons. Parents can post completed work in the classroom to share if the student and parent wish. Our main focus in this course is the weekly live lesson. If a student misses a lesson, the recording will be available in the classroom for them to watch at your convenience.
