During my 10 years teaching in the public education system, I have been in charge of the planning and teaching of all the science content for my grade level for 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. In addition to teaching, my experience includes many Professional Development hours in science. I have twice attended the Schools of the Future Conference in Hawaii which included many high level science sessions, and was a registered member of both the Hawaii State Science Teachers Association, and the National Science Teacher's Association.

Grades Offered
A printable Guided Notes Worksheet will be posted on the class page prior to each new week for use during/after class.
When we get to Human Body Systems, in Life Science, we will NOT be covering human reproduction and sexuality. We will, however, be covering types of gestation in animals, and forms of pregnancy seen in the animal kingdom.

When we get to evolution in Life Science, we will cover the topic briefly, citing scientific positions on evolution, but will focus more on adaptations and natural selection, in an effort to remain respectful to faith based world views that some students may hold.

In the Technology and Engineering Unit, students will be introduced to newer topics not typically covered in most boxed curricula used in traditional school settings. These include Artificial Intelligence, Robots, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and
"Transhumanism", or the idea that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of genetic engineering or technological implants. I will introduce emerging technologies such as cloning, genome editing, implants, bionic appendages, etc. which may be controversial or disturbing to some. A neutral presentation of the facts of these technologies or ideas will be presented with no specific position (pro or con) being pushed by the teacher. Please consider discussing these topics with your child before and after those classes.
We will be exploring science topics using the following sources. This list is not exhaustive, but include the most commonly referred to sources in this class.
