Description

Class Experience

As a high school special educator, I have seen many learners come into high school lacking a conceptual understanding of math ideas. Every year students come my way with the idea that they are "not a math person" or conversely, they are fast at calculating but when it comes to math that requires multiple tries, they give up easily for fear that they will look "stupid". This experience has led me to understand math mindsets and what it takes to reach high levels of achievement in math. Many learners have been taught math as a linear and procedural process. Math is, in fact, creative and fun. I have taught graduate classes on the social-emotional impacts of traditional math instruction and am committed to providing opportunities that make math accessible to all learners and increase positive feelings about math.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
4 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
