Think “Math Fun and Have Confidence” When Multiplying With Multiple Digits
Class experience
In this "Think" series class, we will practice using a standard algorithm for multiplication and also conceptualize the process in order to understand what is happening when computing using multiplying. Efficiency and accuracy will be the outcome over time. We will begin with multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit, then 2 digits by 2 digits, and then progress to 3 digits by 2 digits or beyond over the course of time. There will be plenty of teacher modeling and lots of help in these small group...
We will take a look at place value and look at numbers in their expanded form, i.e. 635 = 600 + 30+5, to understand just what is happening when we multiply. However, fluency with a standard algorithm will be the goal.
