Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
If you're discovering eerie and spine-chilling stories for the first time, or want to frighten yourself more by exploring new-to-you authors, then I dare you to enter "Things That Go Bump In the Night: The Short Ghost Story!" In this informal survey course, we will tour the genre by reading representative short ghost stories by classic and current authors. Along the way, we will identify and discuss its Gothic origins, elements and common motifs of the genre, and also assess plot,...
Students will utilize their literary analysis, oral communication and writing skills as they examine and discuss examples of supernatural short fiction/ghost stories, along with creating a short ghost story of their own.
Homework Offered
Reading assignments will be given after each session, with each short story typically 5-10 pages. The class will culminate with individual learner generated short supernatural stories (with time given for in-class brainstorming); the length of the stories will be entirely up to the individual students.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

We will be utilizing links to stories and supplemental articles that are all within the public domain, or are otherwise of free use.
