Beginner Level
Ready to continue your ASL journey? In this class your learner will learn more advanced signs, dig deeper into the ASL culture and norms in preperation for conversing in ASL. We'll touch on a bit of ASL word order and grammar and note the ways in which ASL differs from English. Class sessions can last anywhere between 1 to 10 weeks. PLEASE NOTE that depending on the time of year, a full ten-week class that meets on a weekly basis may not be available, so it is best to contact me before enrolling. Below is a breakdown of each weekly session up to the full 10 weeks: Week 1: Review ASL history, & fingerspelling, and introduction signs - We will go over a bit of ASL history, and the do's and don'ts of ASL communication. - We will go over greeting signs pertaining to the time of day. - We will conclude class with an interactive game. Week 2: General Signs review, Parameters, and Culture - We will learn to form questions - We will learn about name signs - We will learn about the Deaf President Now movement - We will conclude class with an interactive game. Week 3: Time and Calendar - We will learn days of the week, months, and years - We will learn to tell time - We will learn to state the date Week 4: Directional and Place signs - Learn signs pertaining to places one can go (bank, store, doctor, etc...) Week 5: Grammar and Review - How to form questions (Wh words) - How to form yes/no questions Week 6: - Seasonal Signs - We will learn signs pertaining to seasons Week 7: Description signs and Family - We will review family signs - We will learn several adjectives to describe people and objects Week 8: Travel signs - We will learn signs pertaining to travel and transportation Week 9: Cities/States - We will learn the signs for cities and states Week 10: Review and Miscellaneous signs - We will review the signs learned - We will learn several miscellaneous verb and noun signs (if time we'll touch on noun/verb pairs)

This class is best taken after any of the "These Hands Can Talk" classes no matter the format: Self-paced, Live, or 1 on 1.

I started learning ASL when I was 2 years old and developed a passion for it ever since. I continued my involvement with the deaf community and learning ASL through attending meetups with Deaf individuals, self-study on Dr. Bill Vicar's (well-known and respected deaf ASL teacher) online university, and a community college class.
