Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Titans and Olympians battle to a stand-still in this class until Zeus unleashes the monstrous children of Ouranos and Gaia who join the Olympian's side. This class closely follows Hesiod's Theogony, interpreting it line by line, deconstructing the gods he lists and their domains, specifically lines 453-807. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of Hesiod's Theogony with a little bit of information from Apollodorus sprinkled in. The story will be brought to life through imagery, and as a story teller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Specifically, we will learn about how Zeus defeated his father Kronos with the help of Metis, The Titans and their famous children, how Zeus freed the children of Kronos trapped in Tartarus, how the realms were divvied, and who got the sweetest spots of real-estate in the Underworld.
