Class Experience
Delve into Chaos and learn the ordering of the Cosmos. This class closely follows Hesiod's Theogony, interpreting it line by line, deconstructing the gods he lists and their domains, specifically lines 1-120. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of Hesiod's Theogony with a little bit of information from Apollodorus sprinkled in. Students will learn of Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Erato, Polyhymnia, Ourania, Calliope, Chaos, Ouranos, Eros, Gaia, Erebus, Nyx, Tartarus, Aether, Hemera, Thalassa, Pontus, Okeanus, Iapetus, Koios, Krios, Hyperion, Kronos, Dione, Tethys, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Theia, Rhea, Arges, Brontes, Steropes, Gyes, Briareus, Cottus, Campe, the Erinyes and Gigantes, Aphrodite, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Amalthea, Adrastia, Ida, and finally the birth of Zeus.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
