Don't see a time that works for you?
Do you like being funny? Do you like performing? Do you like to pretend to be an alien who is trying to teach a class on what socks taste the best? Come and hop in our Improv for Beginners class! In one class you will be able to use your voice to project across the room, create a character, and fill your house with laughs! Through games, exercises, and practice, learners will be able to understand and use the basic tools of improv in just one class. Students will also be taught body...
By the end of this lesson, each student will have a better understanding of the basic rules of Improv, how to work with another person, and how to use their voice and project.
Sarah is a Texas based actress and choreographer. She discovered a love for film work shortly after finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at University in Austin TX (UT). She began teaching creative movement with Creative Action in 2017 and studied with the Dance Education Laboratory in New York City in 2018. With a background in concert dance, cirque and martial arts, Sarah enjoys helping students better their movement techniques by strengthening their somatic explorations and awareness. Lacey Cannon (She/Her) is an Arts Educator based in Central Texas. Since beginning with Creative Action in 2018, she has taught classes for students about Theatre, Improv, Story Telling, and Makeup Design. Lacey has served on the board of local theatre companies as Artistic Director and producer, been a contributing writer for BroadwayWorld Austin, and a second round screenplay finalist for the Austin Film Festival. When she’s not teaching, Lacey enjoys cooking, reading, and cuddling with her 12 yr. old cat, Binx.
A space to move around.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In order to have fun and be safe during this class, I recommend : - Wearing clothes that allow you to move around - Wearing shoes/sneakers. I would not recommend sandals! Sandals make it easier for you to trip when performing! - Having an area in your house where you can move around safely. We don't want you to run into or hit or break anything. - Always have water! You will be using your voice and body, and you must stay hydrated. While this isn't a "sport" it does require moving around.
