I always start with a welcome, and sharing of names, allowing all taking part to have time to say what is on their mind. We warm up with games that are group focusses, relaxing and getting our voices and bodies active, always having a lot of fun. The main part of the session is the workshop; this might be particular theatre techniques, again through exercises or games and can be about character, voice, story telling, or improv comedy games. Students will learn particular theatre and acting techniques, whilst using all their soft skills such as taking the lead, being part of the team. Students will have fun, use their creative and imagination, important skills that help outside the drama classroom into all their over subjects and daily life.
I am offering this class because I know it helps children feel connected to see others, it brightens up their day to create creatures and characters and have someone for an hour, who's job it is to facilitate this, not deter them, but to give their creative mind it's full focus. As a parent I found this difficult due to my head full of the jobs I needed to do, or the dinner needing to be made, but as a facilitator I don't have anything but the children in front of me to worry about. And I'm good at bringing children out of themselves and listening to each other. I am vastly experienced in age related techniques and Improv, so I can be flexible considering who is in the class.
Some homework might involve working on a character or a story to share with us in on-going classes, but not in one-off classes.
By being involved, having fun and feeling confident.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
