What's included

Homework
Homework will be assigned each week so that students can review and practice the skills that were learned in that week's class. This homework should take approximately 20-40 minutes per week. If students have questions regarding the homework, I encourage them to post in our classroom or message me directly, so that I can provide an explanation. I like my students to know that I am reachable through the platform outside of our scheduled class time.
Assessment
While I will offer feedback on homework and writing, I do not provide letter grades. Certificates of Completion are available upon request.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this 6-week class, reluctant and overwhelmed writers will learn how to break assignments down into manageable chunks using the writing process. This is such an important skill to learn so that the "brain chaos" doesn't take over, a skill used across many facets of life. I will be guiding writers through every step of the way. My goal is that by the end of the class students will learn not only that they CAN write, but also that writing doesn't have to be a dreaded occurrence (and can even be fun!).

This class does not meet live. Students interact with each other and with me through postings in the platform classroom.

Each week will provide a lesson video (accompanied by notes) for students to both see and hear how that step of the process works. Upon request, I am happy to provide subtitles and/or a transcript of each video to assist learners who process information visually.

Each week the expectation will be:
-Students will watch the video provided
           - Students will complete that week's writing assignment

This class is meant to take students through the entire writing process using one prompt. We will use that topic/prompt to work on each step. We will not be writing paragraphs EACH week.

Please see the outline below for details about what we will work on.

Week 1: Brainstorming
Week 2: Outline
Week 3: Rough Draft
Week 4: Editing
Week 5: Feedback
Week 6: Final Copy

Each week I will provide personalized feedback to the students on their progress with that week's work.

If students have questions or need extra assistance, they are encouraged to contact me through the classroom. I will provide a written or video response depending on the question at hand.

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.

Learning Goals

Learners will leave class more confident in their writing capabilities and will have learned how to break writing assignments down into manageable chunks to avoid overwhelm.

I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from ten to nineteen. We are diving into our 6th year of homeschooling and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 19 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also TESOL certified.
