1-2 hours per week. After class #2, students will write their narrative short story.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 5
What stories are within you? Unleash your creativity and learn to write a short narrative. I will cover the basic elements of narrative writing and how to "hook" or grab the attention of the reader or audience into your story. Students will learn the five parts of a plot- exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Other topics covered will be characters, setting, plot, theme, and conflict. The class will be structured by the following: Week 1- Learn the basic elements of narrative writing and the parts of a plot. This will be led through google slides and discussion. The writing process will also be discussed. *Students should not write the entire story ahead of time. We will develop the ideas in class and feedback and ideas will be given to each learner. Week 2-Students will choose from the given writing topics and begin to map out the plot of the story using a plot map. One to one instruction, feedback, and ideas will be given to each learner to guide their creativity and thinking to develop the plot of the story. Students will write the exposition (story beginning), rising action, and climax in this class. Students are highly encouraged to type the story. This will allow the students to share their screen through zoom. * After this class, students will write the rest of the story for homework and illustrate it. Students will have the option to digitally send me their written stories for editing and feedback. This must occur before the third class. Week 3- Students will “publish” and share their stories with the class. Feedback will be given and revision and edits will be made. If time permits (depending on student enrollment), students will create a class short story or design a book cover for the story. My teaching style is fun, interactive, and engaging. Learners will interact with the other students and the teacher through continuous conversation, discussion, and sharing of ideas. Students should have general knowledge of paragraph writing and sentence structure.
