1 hour per week. Homework will be assigned each week so that students can review and practice the skills that were learned in that week's class. This homework should take approximately 15-20 minutes per day, spread over the week. If students have questions regarding the homework, I encourage them to post in our classroom or message me directly, so that I can provide an explanation. I like my students to know that I am reachable through the platform outside of our scheduled class time.Assessment
While I will offer feedback on homework, I do not provide letter grades. At the end of the 13 weeks, I will provide overall feedback and a certificate of completion upon request.Grading

In this 13-week class, beginning writers will learn important tools to help them progress their writing skills. I will be guiding writers through every step of the way, using scaffolding techniques to build from beginner sentence writing to paragraphs. Each week students will also receive a short spelling/vocabulary list to include in their homework. My goal is that by the end of the class students will learn not only that they CAN write, but be confident in their abilities to write complete sentences and even begin writing structured paragraphs. Please see the outline below for details about what we will work on each week. Week 1: Introductions & Spelling - Phonetic Spelling, Stretching words, "best guess" spelling Week 2: Vowel/Consonant distinction, Rhyming Week 3: Parts of Speech - Nouns (common and proper) and Verbs Week 4: Anatomy of a Sentence Week 5: Parts of Speech - Adjectives Week 6: Punctuation & Sentence Types - Declarative, Exclamatory, Question Week 7: Capital Letters - Where do they go? When do we use them? Week 8: Commas and Quotations - Say, "What?" Week 9: COPS Editing Checklist and Self-Editing Skills Week 10: Using synonyms to add interest Week 11: Using antonyms to add interest Week 12: Writing Extension - Learning to add on to create multiple sentences and beginner paragraphs. Week 13: Share your favorite pieces I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn. While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling. *If you don't see a time listed that works for you, please reach out. I am happy to add classes to accommodate students' schedules whenever I can. Thank you!*

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Southern New Hampshire University
I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from twelve to twenty-one. We are diving into our 8th year of homeschooling and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.
Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 22 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.
I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also TESOL certified.
