Class Experience

⚖️ Ready to Add Drama and Legal Intrigue to Your Stories?
Rules, evidence, and justice—these aren’t just the building blocks of legal systems; they’re also the foundation for compelling storytelling! In this 4-week course, learners will explore how these elements inspire characters, conflicts, and plots that bring the law to life on the page. From rule-breaking characters and witnesses with conflicting stories to tense courtroom scenes and moral dilemmas, this course will help young writers craft exciting stories with a legal twist.

✍️ What We Will Study:
Each week focuses on a unique legal theme, guiding learners to incorporate various law-inspired ideas into their storytelling. Please see the syllabus for details.

🧠 Why These Skills Are Important:
Understanding legal concepts like rules, evidence, and justice not only makes for engaging stories but also develops valuable skills:

- In academics: Writing stories with clear logic and structured arguments builds skills essential for essay writing, debate, and critical thinking.

- In real life: The ability to analyze different perspectives, weigh evidence, and explore moral questions fosters empathy, thoughtful decision-making, and clarity in communication.

By blending real-world legal principles with creative storytelling, learners will enhance both their writing and their ability to think critically about fairness, truth, and responsibility.

📚 How We Will Learn:
Through interactive lessons, creative brainstorming, and hands-on activities, learners will develop scenes and short stories that bring legal concepts to life.

- Craft Characters: Create rule-breakers, enforcers, and witnesses who drive a story’s tension.
- Develop Plots: Design conflicts, investigations, and moral dilemmas that keep readers hooked.
- Refine and Share: Collaborate in workshops to polish and elevate your stories while sharing feedback with peers.

Students will leave the course with various pieces of writing that highlight their understanding of justice and creativity in storytelling.

The small group size allows for significant individualized attention and feedback and more participation for students.
