Did you know there are jumping spiders that live on Mt Everest? Or that the water bear can basically hibernate for a century? Or that flamingos can filter toxic saltwater through their noses to make it drinkable? Animals can live in the most extreme environments and can have the most extreme survival skills. This course is going to teach you about a dozen animals that live in places you would never survive in. And most of these animals you've probably never heard of. Week 1: Water Bear and Pompeii Worm Week 2: Hoff Crab and Lung Fish Week 3: Lesser Flamingos and Emperor Penguins Week 4: Himalayan Jumping spider and Ice crawler Week 5: Wood Frog and Red Flat Bark Beetle Week 6: Sahara Desert Ant and Kangaroo Desert Rat Each week students will complete 2 lessons. Students can choose to participate in a Gimkit or Kahoot to solidify the knowledge they've gained. Throughout this course, students will learn about habitat, adaptations, diets, and physical attributes of these animals. They will learn about what makes an environment extreme and why other animals cannot live in those environments as well. Students will participate in discussions to highlight specific attributes of these animals that they find interesting and fascinating. Students will also participate in a project where they create their own extreme animal. They will name their animal, draw their animal, describe its' features, and how those features help it adapt to an extreme environment of their choice. Lessons will be posted Mondays and Wednesday afternoons. The discussion question will be in the video and students will be expected to respond to the video with their answer. Learners can type the answer, draw a picture, or an other way to represent their answer is acceptable!
