Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Why do snakes shed their skin? 🐍 Why can't we feel the earth spinning? 🌏 Why do we shiver when we are cold?🥶 Why do roses have thorns?🌹 Why do we burp? 🤭 Why do flamingos stand on one leg? 🦩

This ongoing class will encourage learners to remain curious and use critical thinking to explore the world around them. We will meet each week to discuss “why” questions from all different areas of science. At the start of each class, I will present a theme and some “why” questions related to the theme. As a group, we will share what we know, make guesses, and learn the answers to fun and interesting questions. Learners will gain experience communicating their ideas and applying critical thinking skills to answer questions. Images and props will be used to enhance learning.

My teaching style involves asking questions to get the learners thinking before providing them with facts and answers. Discussion-based learning is what I strive for in each class. For this reason, I like to keep my class sizes small. (A version of this class is also available for ages 5-8.)

The 40 lessons in this ongoing class are taught in a continuous loop. Learners can drop in at any time. The lesson topics and concepts do not build upon each other.
