Class Experience

The myths of Ancient Greece are some of the most famous in the world, being used as inspiration for countless movies, TV shows, books, and many other creative arts. With well-known heroes such as Achilles, Heracles, and Perseus, it's easy to see why. In this class, we will be learning about some of the lesser-written about figures in Greek mythology: The Women of Ancient Greece. This class will be primarily lecture-style with an animated PowerPoint, and students will be able to discuss what they like or dislike about each figure. Students are highly encouraged to ask questions throughout the class. We will be talking about the following:

The Tragic Royals:
Clytemnestra
Cassandra
Electra

The Romantics:
Ariadne
Penelope
Atalanta

The Magic Ones:
Oracle of Delphi (Pythia)
Arachne
Circe

The Mothers:
Hecuba
Danaë
Io

The Warrior Queens:
Harpalyce
Camilla
Myrina

**Students are not expected to be familiar with Greek Mythology, but they should be enthusiastic about or interested in the subject. Students will be expected to participate in class discussions, and must have a working microphone and camera.**
