** New Outschool students receive a $20 USD discount on this class when signing up with the following referral link: https://outschool.com/teachers/Miss-Paula-B?signup=true&usid=MAFarFWo ** During this fun and interactive book club class, we will jump into Roz the robot's world as she adapts to living in the wilderness after being shipwrecked on an uninhabited island. This book is now a movie, so learners can enjoy seeing Roz's story come to life after reading it in class. Each week we will discuss chapters from the book and explore the plot, theme, characters, setting, conflicts, and vocabulary. Students will have vocabulary and comprehension handouts for each section of the book to fill in before and during class. Every class, learners will have an opportunity to have free talk about the book, share their opinions and ask questions. This is a great conversation practice opportunity for English language leaners. Before class starts, students should read the weekly recommended chapters and complete the handouts as best as they can. In class, we will go through the answers together, do additional vocabulary practice in the form of games and have more in-depth discussions about the story elements. Weekly Reading Schedule. Hello! It's so nice to meet you. I am an English as a second/foreign language teacher based on the rugged and beautiful Atlantic coast of Canada. I hold a TESOL, TEFL and a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management and Community Development. For more than 18 years, I have been working with and mentoring children and youth. Through my time as a program area leader and program manager at various Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, I have created and facilitated recreation and educational programs for more than 200 children and youth. I strive to make my programs and classes fun, interactive and informative. For nearly 2 school years, I worked as an academic tutor at a learning center for children with autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences. During this time, I worked closely with the classroom teacher to create and teach engaging lessons in every core subject for my students. I learned so much about incorporating multiple teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners. Since 2017, my full time job has been teaching and tutoring English language learners online. During my time teaching, I have taught over 7,000 classes online and met more than 1,000 students from around the world. I am passionate about teaching reading and writing skills to young learners. I believe that learning how to read and express yourself through writing are incredibly powerful tools for children. With these tools, they have the power to achieve greatness in any area they choose. I'm excited to meet your children!
