The Wild Robot STEAM Book Club
6 week course, kids will learn about publishing, make a dummy book, learn about the author and exercise his writing process, learn about/review ecosystems, visualize, create (stop motion video, a new species), and work with partners/small groups for projects.

In this class the kids will read about a robot who gets stranded on an island and has internal struggles adapting and finding her place in her new world. It's a loving story with so many fun elements to highlight. Kids will learn about the author, publishing, ecosystems as it applie to the island, create their own species, make their own book dummy with a partner, make a stop motion video, and also learn about camouflage and how it is used accross both prey and preditor. This class is taught in English.
Students will apply knowledge of science topics such as ecosystems, food webs, and camouflage. Students will excercise their creativity to create. Students will understand what a book dummy is and apply that knowledg with small group participants (breakout rooms) to create theer own book dummy for a publisher. Students will excercise good social skills to work collabroatively in projects.
I have over 15 years working with children of all grades. I'm a licensed teacher and taught in public schools for many years before deciding to homeschool myown children. I have had the following titles: Reading Specialist, Special Education Teacher, Math Teacher
Students will be wokring on projects and can finish after class what they didn't finish in class. They can show their class (if they desire) at the begining of the following class.
Any materials kids want or decide to use to create their projects (markers, cardboard, clay, paper, etc), separate device with Stop Motion App installed, The book: The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Kids will be using scissors and devices and it is suggested they be monitored for safety.
