Class Experience

This class is all about water! Students will learn what the water cycle is and the different forms that water can take. The class will have an introduction, a short play the students can participate in, a discussion, then an activity where they will draw their own water cycle and we will finish with a song and dance called the Water Cycle Boogie. In the introduction, students will learn the different forms water can take; solid, liquid and gas. Then we will perform a short play where the students will get to act out the solid, liquid and gas forms of water. After the play, we will discuss the terms evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Once students understand these terms and how water can transition to one form to another, each student will be able to draw their own water cycle. They will label the liquid, solid and gaseous form of water in their drawing as well as having arrows to represent evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Finally, we will listen to the Water Cycle Boogie song and learn the dance that accompanies it.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the different types of water; solid, liquid and gas. They will also learn the terms evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Students will be able to observe the water cycle in their daily lives and know that it is important for humans, animals and plants.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Addison and I am an Environmental Educator. I currently work at an animal rescue center where I lead public tours, run field trips and go into LAUSD classrooms to teach students about wildlife, the environment and science. I majored in Agriculture and Environmental Education at UC Davis. It is my passion to teach students about the natural world around them. I was a Lead Instructor at UC Davis in a club called Sprout Up, which went into local public schools and taught 1st and 2nd graders environmental education. In addition, I was an Education Interpreter at the Aquarium of the Pacific where I engaged with the public and informed them about the marine animals they were encountering and the ocean. From these experiences, I have developed classes about wildlife and the environment that I will be offering here! I am a very patient, fun and encouraging teacher. I believe that making a connection with students is important and leads to more engaged and happy students. Finally, I do have a pet leopard gecko, named Jeb, that will definitely be making appearances! Can't wait to meet you all!
