Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
We will explore vocabulary and strengthen spelling through word play and games, such as word scrambles, Madlibs, tongue twisters, and creating short poems and stories using the vocabulary with which we are working. Students will learn about word groups such as "there, their and they're" and silent letters such as the 'k' in knight, know and knit will be a focus, as well as developing an understanding of what a noun, adjective and verb are and when to use them. Homophones, synonyms and antonyms will be explored. The class is meant to be a fun way in which to strengthen and practice vocabulary and spelling and can support students of varying abilities. Writing materials such as paper and colored pencils or pens will be required. Prepare to have fun!

Learning Goals

Students will learn about words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings, (homophones), as well as synonyms and antonyms. There will be some focus on spelling words that are commonly used but include silent letters, such as the silent 'h' in hour and the silent 'k' in knight. We will discuss nouns, verbs and adjectives and when to use them while building our vocabulary through word games.
