💙💜💛 Welcome to Sing Create Play!!

'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' story - written by Eric Carle - is re-told with the help of presentation slides and songs. You don't need to have the book, your child can still join the class even if they have never heard this story before.
This class is very interactive. Children will have the opportunity to ask questions, answer questions and play the ukulele.

The class will start by showing the caterpillar sleeping. Children will be shown how to hold their ukulele and strum it quietly, so they wake up the caterpillar gently. Then they will play the ukulele loudly, because the caterpillar didn't wake up! Children will have the opportunity to practise their strumming before the first song starts. They will also practise the C Major chord (if your child has played the ukulele before and knows this chord).

When the caterpillar wakes up, children can build momentum when it eats an apple fast, or munches two pears, etc.
During the class, we will play these songs:
♪ Are You Sleeping Dear Caterpillar?
♪ Walking, Walking, (on the tune of 'Are You Sleeping Brother John?')
♪ Two Little Caterpillars - a nursery rhyme that will teach children to strum/pick the strings of the ukulele at a steady beat.
♪  Fly, Fly Butterfly!

PLEASE NOTE:
* This is a class for children who are ukulele beginners or have never played the ukulele before and want to try a class and see if they enjoy playing. The class is a mixture of direct teaching and student free-improvisation and exploring the instrument as well as some basic music fundamentals.
**This is a class for beginner ukulele students.
***Please also check out my absolute beginner ukulele class if your child has never played the ukulele before: https://outschool.com/classes/8079992f-34d9-4251-aba6-04361d0c3a32/schedule#usuu5xarZy
****Please message me before enrolling if you are concerned about the level of your child.

♪ Young learners will experience music making (with and without the ukulele), practise musical games, imitation, counting the ukulele strings and their fingers that go on the frets of the ukulele. Turn-taking and waiting for one's turn skills will be reinforced along with performing in front of others and working as a team, collaborating and showing appreciation for other players in the group.

It would be great (but not necessary) if your child has experience of:
♪ basic strumming pattern 1,2,3,4 (Down, Down, Down, Down)♪ Chords: C major (if your child is ready for it and has the fine motor skills well-developed to put enough pressure on the strings).
Learning Goals
♪ Skills that we will go over in this class:
- how to hold a ukulele;
- correct playing position;
- proper hand position;
- how to count and play the ukulele (C Major chord)
- how to strum.

♪ Skills children will learn in this class:
- strum at different tempos (fast and slow)
- strum with different dynamics: loud, quiet, from quiet to loud building momentum;
-  how to follow chord patterns (with animals and colours for children who can't read yet);
- how to play multiple children's songs including 'Are You Sleeping', 'Walking, Walking', 'Fly Fly Butterfly' - using 1 or/and 2 chords (C Major and F Major) - depending on yur child's abilities.

Parental Guidance
~ Young learners will experience music making (with and without the ukulele), practise musical games, imitation, identifying right and left hands through games, counting the ukulele strings and their fingers that go on the fret of the ukulele. Turn-taking and waiting for one's turn skills will be reinforced along with performing in front of others and working as a team, collaborating and showing appreciation for other players in the group. ~ I recommend a grown-up to be in the room and assist the young learner. Outschool policy is that only the enrolled students should be on camera, but the grown-up can be off-camera and assist when needed, please. ~ This ukulele beginners class is enjoyable, interactive and learning is happening combined with lots of fun and giggles. I look forward to meeting you in class, singing and playing with you!
Supply List
~ Please make sure that students need to have a TUNED ukulele for each class. Please make sure you tune your ukulele for this class https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VOuRBjmzAM&t=9s

~ Learners can use a pick, but it is not compulsory; I actually recommend the use of fingers for strumming/picking.

~ In order for me to give feedback and see clearly the learner while playing their instrument, please make sure you position the learners, so I can see their BOTH hands when playing, head to the waist, in a well-lit room (the light coming from their front, not from the back). The young learner can sit on the floor, with their legs crossed. If they are joining from an iPad/laptop, they can also be on the floor or a little stool, it can point straight or downwards.

~ Please note that the learner can't sit on an armchair as this will restrict the way their instrument needs to be positioned and also restricts the movement of the learner's arms. A chair with no arms, or a stool are recommended. BOTH learner's feet should be on the floor, not hanging.

~ Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or concerns.

~ The teacher will provide the songs and other files (strumming and chords sheets);
~ Ukulele (Soprano or Concert Standard tuning G  C  E  A)
