In this four week course we will explore the Universe as a system. We will examine its structure and components, focusing on how they are interrelated. We will begin by learning about the history of the universe and its architecture, we will then investigate its structures, such as galaxies, the cosmic web and voids, and then dive into galactic resource cycling. We will finish by looking at the Universe’s continuing evolution and what we know about about its future. Learners will investigate questions such as: - What is the Universe? - What is the connection between the structure of galaxies, black holes, and life? - How are resources cycled? - What is Laniakea and the cosmic web? - How do we study galaxies and their components? This is a highly interactive course. Students will learn through an image and video filled presentation and discussion. Students’ participation and questions are regularly encouraged. No previous knowledge in the subject is required, just a love of learning and curiosity about space. Classes are designed to encourage student engagement and follow their curiosity. Class One: What is the Universe? - History - Structures - Scale Class Two: Structures - Galaxies - Cosmic Web - Voids Class Three: Cosmic Systems - Galactic Resource Cycling Class Four: The Evolution and Future of the Universe
