Class Experience

If your child has ever dreamed of owning a pet unicorn, this is the class for him or her! The Unicorn Care Academy will teach children the basic needs that all living things require for survival. We will also dive into how to care for a pet unicorn. While we learn about the dos and don'ts of taking care of a pet unicorn, we will be creating a Rebus story (a story that uses pictures in place of certain words so the child can build confidence in his or her literacy skills). Focusing on words such as first, next, then, and last, the students will gain practice with sequencing and story structure. The class will finish with the students learning how to draw their own unicorns. The best part is following the completion of this class, each child will be given a personalized Unicorn Care Academy Certificate of Completion!

This class will address the following Kindergarten academic standards:

Science - understand what all living things to survive
English/Language Arts - participate in group reading activities, follow text from left to right, build on early literacy skills, make predictions

With the use of my original worksheets (that you will be able to download and print prior to class), your child will be able to interact with me throughout the entire lesson. Discussion, brainstorming, and sharing ideas as a group will all be a part of the instruction time. Children will be encouraged to participate as much as they are comfortable with.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I am so excited to be teaching through Outschool! I enjoy teaching a variety of ages, as I have both preschool and elementary teaching experience. I like to find ways for students to learn and connect through their unique interests. I want learning to be a fun adventure, which is why you will see that my first class I created is the Unicorn Care Academy!

I received my degree in elementary education in 2007, and I taught fourth grade for six years. After that, I taught pre-K part time for three years so that I could have more time to be home with my children. I am now a mother of five (5!) kiddos ages 10 to 1 year, so I haven't been able to return to the classroom. I am so excited that Outschool has afforded me the opportunity to teach again AND be home with my younger children full-time.

Other than teaching and my family, I love donuts, Diet Coke, and Disney World. I can't wait to plan our next family trip.

I sincerely look forward to teaching your child!
