Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! There is something about the spookiness, carving pumpkins, costumes, and the fun movie nights that make this time of year extra special! Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 are some of the most popular family Halloween movies! Let's have an unforgettable time celebrating both movies! If you are a Hocus Pocus lover or if you've never seen the movies before, this class of fun is for you! We will start off our class with introductions and costume show off time. Think of it sort of like a costume fashion show. Learners are welcome to tell us anything they want about their costume or themselves. Please note that costumes are optional and you do not have to wear a costume to attend this class. We will then move to our Hocus Pocus dance party! We will dance to some of the the top songs from the movies and play some movement Hocus Pocus games! During dancing I will provide suggested movements, but children are encouraged to move however they like and however is comfortable. There are no skill levels and this is all about them being themselves. Then we will make a quick, Hocus Pocus themed snack! Our yummy Hocus Pocus snack board can be customized with your favorite foods! This recipe requires no cooking, is super simple, and fun!! While we enjoy our snack, we will get our pumpkins and paint the Sanderson sisters, the black cat, the candle, the book, or any other Hocus Pocus Halloween themed creations. They can also add their own decorations or flair to them. No pumpkin will look the same, and learners are welcome to show the class their creations. This class will be a fun, enthralling, and a not-so-spooky experience! After class, you may want to have your own viewing of Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 and enjoy your pumpkins. The content of this class will allow you to continue the Halloween fun long after class has ended. 🎃 *Depending on the interaction of all the learners and the pace of the activities, we may go over the allotted time for this class. *Depending on the pace of the learners, the pumpkins may not be totally completed by the end of class. Learners are welcome to continue to work after class has ended. Once they have completed their pumpkins, they can take a picture and share them with everyone in the classroom! ** A Special Thank You to Alefclipart for the impressive clipart!
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their gross motor and coordination skills through movement and dancing. Learners will practice following directions and learning measurements while making our recipe. Students will practice drawing, painting, and fine motor skills with pumpkin painting. They will feel confident, empowered, and comfortable participating in class.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
When it is time to dance, children will need a clear space to move around. The space should be free of objects on the floor or anything they can bump into. This is to avoid injuries or falls.They will need appropriate shoes (no sandals, flip flops or heels). They also need a bottle of water.
Learners should have a work space at a table make their recipe and to paint their pumpkins. You may want to put newspaper or some other material on your table to protect it.
Regarding costumes:
-Masks are welcome, however, masks should be removed for identification during the first four minutes of class to meet safety and privacy policies.
-Please ensure that costumes are age-appropriate and do not contain graphic images, anything scary, violent, etc. Costumes will be vetted by the educator to ensure that they met Outschool standards (secular, age-appropriate, etc.). Thank you!
