Class Experience

The children will be encouraged to examine the text and answer questions to show their understanding. We will concentrate on the first 4 chapter's of the book. The children will read extracts of the text and will be encouraged to listen carefully to the character descriptions. They will be invited to draw a picture of what they think Mr and Mrs Twit look like without discussing the text.

The class will be asked to show their drawings to each other, if they wish. We will discuss similarities and differences and how they achieved their drawing - by listening to key information from the text and listening for describing words.

Continuing with adjectives, children will be asked to consider some Phizz-Whizzing adjectives to describe Mr and Mrs Twit and then share them together as a class. We will extend the discussion by the inclusion of similes as well as adjectives.

Using the knowledge we have gained in discussion, the children will be asked to create a character profile of Mr and Mrs Twit, giving consideration to the physical traits, their personalities and attitudes. Coming together, the children will be invited to share their descriptions.

To develop further speaking and listening skills, we will finish the lesson with a question I will pose for discussion - it will develop the understanding of how good and bad characters are described. The children will consider how a person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a UK qualified teacher of 19 years with 4 years of online teaching experience. I have taught a variety of subjects including basic reading and writing, musical mathematics, music, geography, drawing and cake decorating to name a few.

I absolutely love to teach children in ways that are fun and engaging, rather than the textbook norm. I believe children learn best when they are having fun and feel safe - all of which I encourage in my classes. No child will be left behind and all children will be involved if they wish to be.

I look forward to meeting your children from my home here in the UK.
