Intermediate Level
Students will learn about the Japanese tradition of Hanami and how this tradition is observed and practiced around the globe. Students will read PPT slides and articles. Students will also look at and talk about art works related to the tradition of Hanami which means observing flowers in bloom outdoors. Students will read an article and respond to questions in order to demonstrate literacy skills and comprehension of the material.

Students will advance cultural literacy skills through discussion and reading.

The instructor observed the tradition of Hanami in Toronto, Ontario and participated in a class at the Toronto Reference Library, Toronto, Ontario with respect to Japanese culture and traditions. This cultural experience has enhanced the instructors knowledge and understanding of Japanese culture and history. The instructor was invited to a Japanese tea ceremony as well.
