US Grade 7 - 8
During this class, students will learn how to read closely using the suspenseful text “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. We will first discuss what it means to complete a close read of the text. I will read the entire text aloud with learners while displaying each chunk on a slide show. While reading, we will stop periodically to discuss vocabulary, make predictions, cite evidence, ask questions and talk about the text, as well as reflect on the ending of the story. (reading comprehension and analysis) Students will write a reflection to the ending, then share/discuss with their classmates. As the teacher, I will model fluent reading and think aloud concepts as we read and work together, using HUMOR to infuse the class with fun and to engage learners in careful reflection of the narrator's point of view. Additional creative activities will be involved if time permits!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of close reading a text.
