A Taste of the Caribbean Summer Cooking

During this 2-day cooking adventure, as we make some tasty Caribbean/ West Indian inspired dishes and summer treats filled with an abundance of delicious ingredients and aromatic flavors with some fun twists.

Class Experience

Bring some FLAVOR AND FUN into your fall and winter cooking, as we create some amazing CARIBBEAN inspired dishes, baked treats, and some REFRESHING drinks packed with a powerhouse of nutrition, flavor, and tons of color. 

During this class, FOOD HISTORY, KITCHEN SAFETY,  ALTERNATIVE INGREDIENTS, FOOD PREP HACKS/ TECHNIQUES will be discussed. Learners will follow easy step-by-step instructions. With the use an overhead camera display  learn will be guided to learn some important tips, on how to prep, cook, and serve their meal like a Foodie Chef.

over 1 Week
Lesson 1:
Jerk Burger, Apple Slaw and Mango Smoothie
 Participants will learn how to...
*slice, dice, chop, and julienne slice fruits and vegetables.
*properly cook chicken, meat, and/or seafood
*plate food in creative ways
*mix and layer ingredients
*use herbs and vegetables to add flavor and texture with a homemade seasoning blend
*use knives properly
*make adjustments with ingredients and cooking times as needed
*kitchen measurement and calculations
*Flavor pairing with a sweet and cool mango smoothie
*Kitchen safety

Lesson 2:
Pineapple and Upside Down Cake
 My lesson is about
*mixing and layering ingredients
*using the proper  techniques to bake an upside down cake
*make caramel from scratch
*make adjustments with ingredients and cooking times as needed depending on cake pan's size

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Since we will be using, sharp utensils. blenders, the stove top, oven, graters, etc. for certain recipes, parental supervision is highly advised if any assistance is need. For some students that is a good amount of help is needed and for others, it is not much help that is needed. Each jr chef is different and that is expected.
Supply List
The ingredient list will be sent prior to the 1st class starting. All ingredients can be purchase at your local farmer's markets and grocery stores. 

TOOL LIST
1.A big/ medium bowl
2. 2-3 small prep bowls
3. A large or medium skillet and Sauce pan
4. Cutting board
5. A knife: chef  knife,  pairing knife,   (one that they are most comfortable with)
6. A blender
7. Measuring spoons and Cups
8. Bundt cake pan or Muffin Pans or Baking dish
9. Food processor
10. Baking tray
11. Mixer (handheld or cake mixer)/ whisk
12. Rubber spatula
13. Aluminum paper/ Parchment paper
 4 files available upon enrollment
