The goal of this class is to introduce young learners to the genre of folktales. We will learn what a folktale is, and think of examples of folktales around the world. We will also read a folktale and identify what makes this short story a folktale! This class will start with some conversation time, followed by a short lecture on folktales. Afterwards, we will read a folktale and talk about the story. We will respond to the story with some writing and speaking. This class is interactive...
Students will be able to identify a folktale and several traits of a well written folktale.
The folktale we will read comes from Kenya. I lived in Kenya for 17 years and will share some basic information about Kenya in the class.

The moral of the folktale is about pride and not judging others based on appearance.
