We will look into the genetics of breeding for certain traits and how bettas breed when they are known to be very aggressive fish (and why this feature is not as accurate as it once was). Students will learn about the characteristics of commonly bred bettas in captivity, their natural habitat and how they are bred. How to take good care of a pet betta with minimal expense and best practices with a focus on maintaining healthy and happy fish. We will learn common mistakes people make and myths about keeping bettas that people often share.
I am the Vice President of the Raleigh Aquarium Society and I have kept fish my entire life. I have 31 aquariums that I maintain currently and several betta friends that keep me company on my desk. I am a certified high school science teacher who has taught Aquatic science for many years and I am also the sponsor for the Aquarium club at my school.
