Class Experience

In this class, students will meet to be given the time and opportunity to practice:
spelling cvc words, sight words, and other commonly used words in an encouraging/supportive space.

Isn't this just a reading class?
Reading is not the same skill as spelling.
If your learner is comfortable reading at grade level but struggles with spelling, they are not alone. Learning to spell phonetically is a process often achieved over time, after learning to read.

Why small class sizes?
High achievers are often frustrated easily when they are faced with spelling challenges. I want to offer a comfortable space to make mistakes and learn.

Class Format:

1. We will read and review CVC (less challenging) words and sight words for confidence boosting, along with more challenging words for growth.
We will also have Spelling Bee style spelling practice.
2. Students will be given a word list.
3. We will define the words, look at tips for spelling each word, and students will be expected to review the words for the weekly Spelling Bee.

Requirements for enrollment:
Students should be able to read beginner reader books will little assistance and be reading at grade level or above.
Students should be able to identify beginning and ending sounds of words.
Students should be familiar with common digraphs.

**If your student does not meet these requirements, consider enrolling them in a reading camp.

Learning Goals

At the end of the course children should be able to spell at least 20 new words and have acquired tips to spell phonetically.
