US Grade 2 - 4
This class will be great for students to practice their spelling skills, reading skills, and social skills in ways that are fun. Learners will make friends in these weekly classes and be challenged to strengthen their spelling and reading in a casual setting. The friendly competition will be a tool to help motivate them to participate and learn while developing their spelling and reading skills. In the spelling challenge, we will focus on a phonetic sound so that students can study words in advance to prepare for the spelling challenge. Learners will be given examples of words that can be used during the class, but the word list won't be limited to only the examples. It is a good idea to look up and study words with the phonetic sound in them as you prepare for the weekly challenge. The teacher will be careful to challenge each student according to their level as advised in advance by the parent, so let her know when you register. See the schedule of phonetic sounds in the class handout. ~Class schedule~ Week of 9/16 words with -tion, -sion Lotion, addition, confusion Week of 9/9- words with o and ou Dog log cough loud Week of 9/2- words with soft and hard Cc Cash, cell, citrus, decade, telescope Week of 8/26- words with soft and hard Gg gum, gentle, game, danger, geography Week of 8/19- words with suffixes -ed, -ing, s Jumped, running, spinned, cries Week of 8/12 - words with silent letters W,B,L,T, P, and K Know, climb, write, talk, listen, psychic

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from Howard University
Hello Everyone! My name is Lena Pittman and I have been a teacher for over 14 years. I love to teach in a fun and exciting way by using music, games, and other props to get the children very involved. There are many subjects and ages that I have taught but my main focus has been teaching 5-year-olds how to read and to learn their math facts. I have been teaching ESL to all ages for over 2 years and I really enjoy teaching this subject, also. Creating new and exciting ways to help young learners to enjoy learning is something that I have a passion for.
I am a graduate of Howard University and I received a Bachelor of Science degree. I have raised 3 boys and homeschooled them for 5 years. They are all bigger than me now and love to play football!
Now I enjoy teaching online. Teaching has been my passion and I love to be creative with my teaching through song, games, and different props that include fun video clips.
