Young wizards will learn a card trick involving the four aces. They will learn to do two simple false shuffles, easy ways to shuffle the cards without changing special card locations. Plus, a simple card control used in uncounted card tricks will be taught. They will also become familiar with giving clear instructions to others. The concept of making magic more than just a puzzle, using “patter” to make “just a trick” into a fun miracle. The trick will be performed. Then, I will explain how to do it. The young wizard will then endeavor to perform it, and I will give assistance and pointers. Goes great with other Ace tricks I teach. These card handling skills will be very helpful in learning this trick. 1. Riffle shuffle cards 2. Overhand shuffle cards. 3. Deal cards one at a time onto the table. 4. Hold the deck in one hand without control trouble. 5. Spread cards from one hand to the other cleanly.
Learning Goals
The young wizards will learn to do a convincing card shuffle that does not disturb the order of the top four cards.
The student will learn to clearly give instructions and control the spectator's actions, while making this seem a natural part of the routine.
They will learn the use of performance presentation to make a trick more than just a fooler, and into an fun and amazing journey. The student will try to think of a story-type presentation to add to the interest and fun.

Supply List
A deck of cards. The deck should be in good condition. Students with smaller hands should strongly consider "bridge" size cards rather than "poker" size. It is always useful, although not required, to have a surface from which cards can be easily picked up. One can look at magicians' close-up pads online to either find one to purchase or as a reference for what might be used from items already at hand (i.e. a thin towel).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
The magic classes I teach are for close-up magic with cards, coins, everyday objects and some special magic objects, too. I also include the very special and important "inner secrets" of magic. Misdirection, creating mystery and surprise, using special unseen and unknown set-ups and "moves", and sometimes simple sleight of hand are taught.
I've been a professional magician since 1972, performing for private parties, corporations, festivals and special events. I performed my own parlor magic show at a famous mansion for two years.
As a magic teacher, I've taught summer camps for the University of Minnesota's summer kids camps for more than ten years. I've also taught kids for the Twin Cities Magic Academy (an affiliate of Discovery Magic, a national magic business), for two Minneapolis Park programs, and taught private lessons.
My classes are about making magic amazing, making presenting magic about more than just fooling people. When spectators ask my students, "How did you do that!?", they really mean, "How in the world could you possibly have done that? That can't happen!" They say "Wow!" before they ask how.
Within the learning and performing of magic lies opportunities for growth in developing speaking skills, self-confidence, perseverance, politeness, reading for learning and a bit of theater.
My mantra for teaching and performing is "Magic is Fun for Everyone".
