Description

Class Experience

Students will explore four read alouds and videos to learn about the planets, how the sun makes shadows, how many moons go with planets, and about the life of astronaut Mae Jemison. Students will be able to interact with myself and other learners. Near the end of class students will have fun assignment reflecting/drawing on nearpod what they learned about the solar system that we discussed in class.
I have lots of experience teaching science over the past 18 years. Space exploration is an area that is very interesting to me, and I have much enthusiasm teaching this subject!

Videos, nearpod games, brainpop quizzes, and vocabulary will be part of each lesson. Please have the nearpod app on the student computer. Note: No subscriptions needed for students, but note that I will not be able to share the recordings because I have a paid subscription to videos I'll be sharing online.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
informal assessment: students will have a chance to type a reflection about what they learned from each lesson at the end of class
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Since I share videos in class that require permission and subscription, I am able to play them in class but not able to share them online. For this reason I do not share the class recording.
Parents will not need to pay for any subscriptions, but students will need the nearpod app for each lesson. Parents will not need a subscription to Brainpop Jr. but this video resource/quiz will be used during the lessons.
